THE SHORT ANSWER
Make important pages accessible, describe the business consistently, answer real customer questions and support those answers with original work. Google says its AI search features use the established SEO foundations, with no extra special schema required. Measure an observed mention or citation separately from a search click, and record the exact question and platform.
Explain the business before chasing a new label
A visitor should be able to understand your services without knowing your internal product names. Pair a product label with the task it helps someone complete. Say whether you provide a service, a tool, a prepared output or an ongoing managed workflow.
Keep the business name, public contact details and service area coherent across the pages people use. Where a trading brand and legal entity have different roles, explain those accurately. An office address, a registered address and a customer-facing venue should not be treated as interchangeable facts.
Check that useful pages can be discovered
For Google’s AI search features, a supporting page needs to be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet. Check the page response, robots instructions, canonical address and internal links before deciding that an absence is a content problem. A sitemap helps discovery; it does not confirm indexing by itself.
Keep essential answers in the page’s readable content. Images can show the finished work, while the surrounding text explains the business problem and what was delivered. Our SEO service covers the connected technical, content and local-information review.
Answer a question your customer really has
Choose a question with a useful next decision: what a service includes, what information to prepare, which responsibilities need agreeing or how two options differ. Give a short answer first, then enough detail for someone to act on it.
The Akdeniz Seafood project includes an actual guide to preparing a wholesale seafood enquiry. It connects a buyer’s question with product, volume and delivery information. That is a more specific piece of evidence than a page repeatedly claiming to be an expert. The example is available on a pre-launch preview.
Make evidence easy to understand
- Show real project work with an accurate explanation of the brief and delivery.
- Label prepared outputs, illustrative examples and published work clearly.
- Use business facts your team can verify.
- Link related services, guides and examples in a way a reader can follow.
- Use structured data that matches the visible content and the actual publisher.
Keep an accountable person or team responsible for checking the page. An AI draft can help organise material, but the business still needs to confirm claims, dates, contact routes and the meaning of a screenshot.
Keep three kinds of evidence separate
| Observation | What it can tell you |
|---|---|
| Google reporting | Web search performance, plus AI Overview and AI Mode impressions in the Generative AI report where data is available. |
| Recorded AI response | A business mention or source link for that exact question, platform, date and settings. |
| Business enquiry | A real contact received through the business’s own process. |
Google’s Generative AI performance report groups impressions by page, country, device and date. It may not appear when the site has insufficient impressions. It does not show personalised answers from other AI platforms or establish which question produced a phone enquiry.
A citation is one observation. Keep provider errors and missing access as unavailable data, and keep branded diagnostic questions separate from unbranded discovery questions.
Start with questions a nearby customer could ask
These are planning prompts, not recorded AI recommendations. Use them to identify the information your own pages need to explain.
| Customer question | What your business should make clear |
|---|---|
| Who can help my North London business with social media? | The service, suitable business types, real area coverage, production responsibilities and examples of delivery. |
| Can I see relevant work before getting in touch? | A specific project brief, what was delivered, and whether the example is published, pre-launch or prepared. |
| What would happen after my first enquiry? | The information needed, how the scope is agreed, and a working contact route. |
Repeat monitoring prompts without naming STAM when measuring unbranded discovery; keep branded diagnostic checks separate.

Common questions
Do I need a separate AI website or special file for Google AI search?
Google’s AI search guidance builds on accessible, useful pages and established search foundations. Do not replace a clear website with a special-file exercise. Check current platform guidance, readable content and indexing first; no file or markup can guarantee a recommendation or citation.
Can GEO guarantee that an AI assistant will recommend my business?
No. A business can improve the clarity, accessibility and evidence of its information, but it cannot guarantee a platform’s response. Recommendations vary with the question, location, platform and other context. Treat an observed mention or citation as one recorded observation, not a promised source of enquiries.
How should a small business monitor AI visibility alongside Search Console?
Google now provides a Generative AI performance report for AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions; it may not appear when there is insufficient data. Use it alongside Web search performance. Separately record fixed AI questions, platforms, dates and cited pages. Neither report nor an isolated citation proves a phone enquiry.
